All right; Today's crisis. Jeff will not die. He is not even at risk of imminent death.
He now has the incision open (the muscular wall is closed but the fatty layer and the skin are open and will heal from the bottom up). There is a new stoma (formed by a fistula) that is there and may have to have a second bag/pouch.
There was a 50 percent chance this might occur. The issue was the on call guy last night didn't tell Jeff this was something they see in ostomy cases, especially ones done as emergency surgery. So all night Jeff was thinking he was leaking bowel material into his belly all night, which is what almost killed him at the beginning. And he was also thinking it was them making him walk that did this. And that he just wasn't important enough to wake up the surgeon. Jeff asked what time the surgeon would be in and got told; "I don't know his schedule"
So of course he called me in am and I rushed up there. It was not fun.

This sort of covers what they will have to deal with to address this second "stoma" that formed itself.
